Tamiya Lacquer Paint – Fast Drying and a Perfect Finish
Tamiya Lacquer Paint (LP) is a line of high-quality modeling lacquers in 10ml bottles. Their main advantage is a very short drying time and excellent coverage, allowing for fast and efficient model painting. Once dry, they form a hard and durable coat, perfect for further work such as applying decals or weathering. The formula of these paints has been developed to achieve a smooth and even surface, which is crucial for modeling vehicles, aircraft, or figures. The wide range of colors, including matte, semi-gloss, and gloss finishes, allows for the precise replication of almost any paint scheme.
How to Use LP Series Paints? Tips and Techniques
LP series lacquers are primarily intended for airbrushing. Due to the rapid evaporation of the solvent, attempting to brush-paint larger surfaces usually results in unsightly streaks. For best results, the model surface should be prepared beforehand using a suitable primer, such as Tamiya Surface Primer. The paint must be thoroughly mixed before use. For thinning, use the dedicated Tamiya Lacquer Thinner (87077) or Lacquer Thinner Retarder Type (87194). The standard thinner works great in most cases, while the retarder type version extends the paint's drying time, giving it more time to self-level perfectly on the model's surface. This is especially useful when painting in higher temperatures or low humidity. Remember that these lacquers are based on strong solvents, so painting should be done in a well-ventilated area and with a protective mask equipped with an organic vapor cartridge.
