Tamiya LP-40 METALLIC BLACK Lacquer is a high-quality model paint from the LACQUER PAINT series, designed for precise painting of plastic models. The 10ml bottle contains cellulose lacquer in a deep, metallic black shade, offering superb coverage and a beautiful surface finish.
Key Features and Applications
Paint Type: Cellulose (lacquer), featuring very fast drying.
Color: METALLIC BLACK – a striking, metallic black shade, accurately representing the product's depicted appearance.
Capacity: 10 ml.
Application: Ideal for painting plastic models, especially recommended for airbrush application.
Finish Quality: Provides a high-quality, smooth, uniform, and durable coating.
Odor Level: The paint has a distinct odor (rating ●●●●○).
Surface Preparation for Painting
Before applying the lacquer, all surfaces intended for painting must be thoroughly cleaned and degreased. To achieve optimal paint adhesion, uniform coverage, and coating durability, it is crucial to use a suitable model primer. Applying the lacquer directly onto unprimed plastic may result in a weaker coating and a less satisfactory final effect.
For quick and effective priming, we recommend spray primers, such as Tamiya Surface Primer, which provide an ideal base for the lacquer.
Painting Methods
Airbrush Painting
Tamiya LP cellulose paints are excellent for airbrushing, providing smooth flow and precise application. To achieve optimal consistency and prevent airbrush nozzle clogging, the lacquer should be thinned in a 1:1 ratio with a dedicated thinner.
Optional thinner: You can also use Lacquer Thinner Retarder Type, which contains a retarder. This allows the paint to level out for a longer period, resulting in an even smoother surface on the painted part.
Safety Precautions: Due to the composition of cellulose paints, when airbrushing, it is recommended to use respiratory protective equipment, such as a suitable mask, ideally in conjunction with a spray booth equipped with a fume extraction system.
Brush Painting
Tamiya LP-40 lacquer, due to its strong solvent content, is not recommended for brush painting large areas. Brush application can lead to damage to previously applied paint layers and the formation of unsightly brush strokes. Brush painting should be limited only to very small touch-ups or details.
