Application and Painting Preparation
Tamiya LP-34 lacquer is optimized for effective painting of models, particularly plastic models. To achieve the best and most durable results, the model's surface must be properly prepared.
Surface Preparation
Surfaces intended for painting must be clean and thoroughly degreased. It is recommended to use a model primer, which significantly improves paint adhesion, evens out the surface, and enhances the quality of the final finish. Direct application of paint to plastic can result in weaker adhesion and a less desirable finish, especially when brush painting. For quick and easy priming, we recommend Tamiya Surface Primer spray primer.
Airbrushing
Tamiya LACQUER PAINT series paints perform exceptionally well when airbrushed. For optimal airbrush flow and ease of painting, it is recommended to dilute the lacquer at a 1:1 ratio with the dedicated thinner Tamiya Lacquer Thinner. This mixture minimizes the risk of nozzle clogging and ensures even coverage. Optionally, for an even smoother surface and longer working time for the paint to self-level, you can use Tamiya Lacquer Thinner Retarder Type, which contains a retarder.
Due to the strong solvent content, when airbrushing Tamiya LP paints, it is strongly advised to use appropriate respiratory protection (e.g., a mask) and work in a well-ventilated area, ideally with a spray booth with fume extraction.
Brush Painting
Tamiya Lacquer Paints are not recommended for brush painting, except for very small touch-ups or minor details. The quick drying time and strong solvent content mean that brush application can damage previously applied paint layers and lead to unsightly streaks.
