Decal Paper – Create Your Own Unique Markings
Decal paper, also known as water-slide transfer paper, is a specialized material that allows you to design and print your own water-slide decals. It's an indispensable tool for any modeler who wants to add a personal touch to their models, replicate custom paint schemes, or replace missing markings that aren't included in the kit. With it, you can precisely transfer any graphic onto the model's surface – from tactical numbers and unit emblems to complex sponsor logos on civilian models. This process gives you complete freedom in personalizing your project and helps you achieve a professional, realistic look that will make your work stand out.
How to Choose and Use Decal Paper?
Choosing the right paper is crucial for achieving the best results. First and foremost, you need to consider the type of printer you have. Sheets are available for both inkjet and laser printers. Using the wrong type of paper can lead to smeared ink or damage to your printer. Another important criterion is the background color of the paper. There are two main types: clear (transparent) and white. Clear paper is ideal for applying dark graphics onto light-colored surfaces, as only the print itself is visible after application. On the other hand, paper with a white background is essential when the graphic contains white elements (since most home printers don't print white) or when the decal is to be placed on a dark background, which prevents the underlying color from showing through. After printing your design, the sheet must be sealed with a special spray varnish, and then you proceed just as you would with a standard decal included in a model kit: cut it out, soak it in water, and apply it to the target surface.
