What are Alclad II Paints?

Alclad II paints are a specialized line of ready-to-use lacquer paints, acclaimed by modelers worldwide for their ability to create exceptionally realistic metallic finishes. These are known as metalizers, specially formulated for airbrush application without the need for additional thinning. Their unique formula allows for smooth and uniform coats that faithfully replicate the appearance of polished aluminum, chrome, steel, titanium, and many other metals. These products are an ideal choice for modelers of aircraft, civilian and military vehicles, figures, or sci-fi models who strive to achieve an authentic look for metal surfaces.

How to Paint with Alclad II Paints?

Proper application of Alclad II paints is key to achieving the desired effect. First and foremost, they require a perfectly prepared surface – smooth and clean. For high-shine paints like Chrome or Polished Aluminium, a gloss black base coat is essential, such as Alclad's Gloss Black Base. The paints should be applied with an airbrush at low pressure (around 12-15 PSI) in thin, even layers. As these are lacquer-based solvent paints, it is crucial to work in a well-ventilated area and use respiratory protection. Once dry, they form a durable coat that, depending on the type of paint, can be further polished or sealed with a dedicated clear varnish.

The Alclad II color palette extends far beyond standard shades of silver. It includes dozens of metal variants, from different types of aluminum (e.g., Duraluminium, White Aluminium) to steel (Steel, Jet Exhaust), copper, and brass.
