Model Paints – The Key to a Realistic Finish for Your Models

Painting is one of the key stages in model making, giving the model its realistic look and character. Our range includes model paints designed for various techniques and types of models – from military vehicles and aircraft to figures and dioramas. Choosing the right paint is fundamental to the final result, so it's worth getting to know the basic types of products. Depending on their chemical composition and properties, paints differ in application method, drying time, and the auxiliary products they require, such as thinners or cleaners.

Types of Model Paints and Their Applications

We distinguish three main types of paints: acrylic, enamel, and lacquer. Acrylic paints are the most popular choice, especially for beginners. They are water-based, have a neutral odor, and dry quickly, and tools can be easily cleaned with water. Enamel paints are known for their high durability and a smooth finish. They take longer to dry, which allows for blending colors directly on the model, but they require dedicated thinners and have a strong smell. Lacquer paints offer the highest resistance and a perfectly smooth surface. They dry instantly, making them recommended mainly for airbrushing by more experienced modelers.

The choice of paint depends on individual preferences, the equipment you have (brush or airbrush), and the type of model being painted. Regardless of your decision, it's a good idea to get a suitable primer, which improves paint adhesion, and a varnish (clear coat) in a matte, satin, or gloss finish to protect the finished work. In our store, you will also find a wide range of thinners and modeling chemicals that will make working with any type of paint easier.
