Application and Recommendations
Surface Preparation
Before applying Tamiya LP-35 lacquer, ensure the painted surface is clean, dry, and degreased. For optimal paint adhesion and a durable coating, as well as a better final effect (especially when brush painting), applying a suitable primer is recommended. The Tamiya Surface Primer spray primer is a recommended product that significantly streamlines the preparation process.
Airbrushing
Tamiya LP series lacquer paints are primarily designed for airbrush application, ensuring exceptional fluidity and ease of use. For best results, it is recommended to dilute the paint 1:1 with the dedicated Tamiya Lacquer Thinner. This mixture minimizes the risk of airbrush nozzle clogging, which is a common issue with water-based paints.
Important Information: Due to the strong solvents contained in the lacquer, respiratory protection, such as a protective mask, is necessary when airbrushing, ideally in conjunction with a spray booth with fume extraction.
For an even smoother finish and extended leveling time, you can optionally use Tamiya Lacquer Thinner Retarder Type, which contains a drying retarder.
Brush Painting
Tamiya LP-35 lacquer, due to its cellulose composition and strong solvent content, is not recommended for brush painting large areas. Brush application can lead to damage to previously applied paint layers and the formation of unsightly streaks. It is suitable only for small touch-ups or precise painting of very small details.
