The bottle contains 10 ml of high-quality acrylic alcohol-based hobby paint in Brown Gloss, produced by the renowned company Tamiya. This paint has been specifically developed for use in modeling – particularly for painting plastic models—ensuring smooth coverage and a durable, glossy finish.
Tamiya acrylic paints, identified by codes starting with X- or XF-, are widely used for painting plastic models from various manufacturers, who often specify Tamiya paint numbers in assembly instructions. Brown Gloss (X-9) is suitable for military models, civilian vehicles, and figures where a durable, glossy brown finish is desired.
To achieve a specific shade, it is recommended to mix paints in proportions suggested by model manufacturers (e.g., XF-1:2 + XF-4:1). The paint is compatible with acrylic primers and other paints in the same line, allowing for the creation of complex color schemes.
Preparation and Painting Instructions
Surface Preparation
The surfaces to be painted should be thoroughly cleaned and degreased.
Applying a primer is recommended, especially before brush painting, to improve adhesion and durability. A suggested product is Tamiya Surface Primer.
Brush Painting
For smaller surfaces, the paint can be used straight from the bottle without thinning.
For larger areas, a light water dilution is recommended to achieve a smooth finish.
An optional Tamiya Acrylic Paint Retarder can be used to extend the drying time and facilitate longer painting sessions.
Airbrush Painting
The paint should be thinned at a 1:1 ratio with Tamiya X-20A thinner to maintain optimal viscosity and ensure stable flow through the nozzle.
When using an airbrush, it is recommended to wear respiratory protection (mask) along with the extraction chamber due to the fumes generated.
Stronger thinners such as Lacquer Thinner or Mr. Levelling Thinner can also be used to improve paint flow, though they may produce a stronger smell.
