Application and Surface Preparation
The Tamiya LP-6 PURE BLUE lacquer is suitable for painting plastic models and similar materials. Surfaces should be cleaned and degreased before painting. For optimal results and durability of the coating, it is recommended to use a suitable primer, such as Tamiya Surface Primer. Painting without primer may lead to poorer adhesion and uneven coverage, especially when applied with a brush.
Painting Techniques
Airbrushing
The celluloid lacquer Tamiya LP-6 is most effective when used with an airbrush. Recommended thinning ratio is 1:1 with Lacquer Thinner, ensuring smooth flow and preventing nozzle clogging.
For an even smoother finish, you can use a thinner with an retarder – Lacquer Thinner Retarder Type, which allows for better surface leveling by extending drying time.
Due to the presence of strong solvents, it is recommended to wear respiratory protection, such as a mask, and work in a ventilated area or spray booth with exhaust.
Brushing
This product is not recommended for brush application except for small touch-ups, as its high solvent content can cause dissolution and streaking on previously painted layers.
Compatibility and Additional Tips
The paint is compatible with most plastics used in modeling
