The bottle contains 10 ml of cellulose hobby paint in IJN Grey Sasebo color, developed by TAMIYA. This paint is part of the LACQUER PAINT series and is characterized by quick drying time and high coverage quality. It is intended for painting plastic models, providing a smooth, durable finish with high resistance.
Technical Characteristics
Type of paint: cellulose lacquer
Volume: 10 ml
Color: IJN Grey Sasebo (as shown in the image)
Odor intensity: ●●●●○ (stronger smell; recommended to use in a ventilated space)
The Tamiya LP-13 lacquer is primarily suitable for painting plastic military and civilian models that require a realistic, semi-matte finish. Due to its consistency and quick drying, this paint is especially recommended for airbrush application, allowing for an even, streak-free coat.
Surface Preparation
Surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned and de-greased. Applying lacquer directly onto plastic may result in weaker adhesion and an uneven finish. Therefore, it is recommended to use a primer, such as Tamiya Surface Primer, which improves adhesion and enhances color durability.
Painting Techniques
Airbrush: The paint should be thinned in a 1:1 ratio with Lacquer Thinner for optimal flow through the nozzle and better coverage. It is advisable to wear respiratory protection and work in a well-ventilated area or in an extraction booth.
Brush Painting: Only recommended for minor touch-ups, as the solvents in the lacquer can dissolve previous layers and cause streaks.
Optional Thinners
To dilute the paint further, you can also use Lacquer Thinner Retarder Type, which contains an retarding agent that slows down drying, helping to improve surface leveling and achieve a smoother coating.
