Capacity: 23 ml.
Color: J.N. GREY – matching Tamiya’s original color chart.
Odor intensity: moderate, user-friendly for modelers.
The Tamiya XF-12 J.N. GREY is intended for painting plastic models, especially in 1/72 scale, where reproducing the grey shade used by the Japanese Navy (Japan Navy Grey) is essential. It is excellent for applying to plastic components of military models, vehicles, aircraft, and other miniatures. This paint is often used in historical and military modeling.
Color Mixing and Compatibility
Tamiya's X and XF acrylic series paints are compatible and can be mixed to achieve precise shades. Mixing ratios are provided in modeling instructions, e.g., XF-1:2 + XF-4:1 specifies mixing two parts of XF-1 with one part of XF-4.
Surface Preparation and Painting Techniques
Surfaces to be painted should be thoroughly cleaned and degreased.
Applying a primer, such as Tamiya Surface Primer, is recommended to improve adhesion and durability.
The paint is suitable for application with brushes and airbrushes.
Brush Painting
For small areas, the paint can be applied undiluted. For larger surfaces, a light water dilution is suggested. To extend drying time and achieve a more polished finish, add Tamiya Acrylic Paint Retarder.
Airbrush Painting
The paint should be thinned at a 1:1 ratio with Tamiya X-20A thinner to ensure proper flow through the nozzle and reduce clogging risk. When using an airbrush, it is advisable to wear protective masks and work in well-ventilated areas or spray booths with extraction.
