The bottle contains 10 ml of high-quality acrylic hobby paint by Tamiya in the color Royal Blue Gloss (X-3). This alcohol-based acrylic paint features a moderate odor intensity (●●○○○), ensuring a comfortable painting process.
Application: painting plastic models and other modeling surfaces
Application and Compatibility
Tamiya acrylic paints, including the X-3 Royal Blue Gloss model, are recommended for precise painting of plastic models, especially those produced by Tamiya. Tamiya color codes (X- and XF-) are widely used in instructions and painting schemes for many models, ensuring compatibility with a broad range of modeling products.
If a specific shade is required, many model instructions suggest mixing paints in particular proportions (e.g., XF-1:2 + XF-4:1), allowing for accurate color matching.
Surface Preparation
Before painting, thoroughly clean and degrease the surface of the model. It is highly recommended to use a primer to improve paint adhesion and achieve a better final painting effect, especially when applying with a brush. Suitable for this purpose is Tamiya Surface Primer in spray form.
Application Methods
Brush Painting
Small surfaces can be painted without thinning.
For larger areas, it is recommended to lightly dilute the paint with water.
The paint should be diluted in a 1:1 ratio with Tamiya X-20A for optimal flow and minimal nozzle clogging.
Alternatively, stronger thinners such as Lacquer Thinner or Mr. Levelling Thinner can be used, which improve paint flow but have a more pronounced odor.
It is recommended to use respiratory protection and work in a well-ventilated area or with a fume extraction booth.
