Painting Techniques
Brush Painting
For small surfaces, the paint can be used straight from the bottle without thinning. For larger areas, it is recommended to dilute the paint with Tamiya X-20 thinner. The paint applies easily, dries quickly, and allows for detailed precise finishing. For cleaning brushes, X-20 thinner is also recommended.
Airbrush Painting
Oil enamel can be applied with an airbrush when diluted 1:1 with Tamiya X-20 thinner. During application, it is advisable to wear respiratory protection, such as a mask, and work in a spray booth with adequate extraction. For cleaning the airbrush, X-20 thinner is also used.
Usage Notes
The Tamiya color code (XF-59) is widely used by other model manufacturers as well, making color matching easier according to model instructions. If a specific shade is required, modeling instructions often specify mixing ratios, such as XF-1:2 + XF-4:1. This flexibility allows for precise color reproduction.
