Tamiya X-11 Chrome Silver is especially recommended for painting plastic assembly models, providing a durable, metallic finish. It is widely compatible with other Tamiya enamel paints, which start with X- or XF-. Many model manufacturers specify Tamiya color codes in their instructions, making it easier to select the right shades. It is also possible to create custom color mixes by combining paints in specific proportions to achieve more tailored effects.
The paint adheres well to various surfaces, including plastic, metal, and wood, enabling a broad range of modeling and hobby applications.
Surface Preparation
Before painting, it is recommended to thoroughly clean and degrease the surface. To maximize adhesion and paint durability, using a primer is advised. A spray primer called Tamiya Surface Primer is recommended.
While Tamiya oil enamel paints can be applied directly to the surface, a primer enhances their durability and bonding with the substrate.
Painting Techniques
Brush Painting
Small surfaces can be painted with the paint undiluted.
For larger surfaces, it is recommended to dilute the paint slightly with Tamiya X-20 thinner (without the "A" label).
The same thinner can be used for cleaning brushes and painting tools.
Airbrush Painting
For airbrushing, dilute the paint in a 1:1 ratio with Tamiya X-20 thinner.
It is recommended to use respiratory protection, such as a mask and extraction cabinet, when applying paint with an airbrush.
The airbrush should also be cleaned with X-20 thinner after use.
