More info

The kit proposed by Tamiya company includes a plastic model kit of Japanese main battle tank in 1:35 scale.

Despite the restrictions imposed on Japan after World War II, due to its strategic location, it was not forbidden to possess an army and to develop its own weapons. The only caveat was to designate its armed forces as the Japanese Self Defense Force, mobilized only to defend its own territory. One of the branches developed within the Japanese army is the armored forces. One of the newer tanks built in Japan is the Type 90, a third-generation vehicle. It is armed with a smooth 120 mm cannon, manufactured by the German Rheinmetall. The same gun is mounted in the latest NATO tanks - Leopard 2, Challenger II and M1 Abrams. Steel-ceramic composite armor also meets the latest standards. Compared to other basic tanks, Type 90 is smaller, faster and smoother. In an open and dynamic battlefield, this is an advantage, but in the urbanization of Japan, these assets are not needed. Because of this, these tanks are primarily used as school vehicles, and the future of Japanese armor is centered around a new project - Type 10 tank.

The Tamiya kit allows building Japanese Type 90 basic tank with two crew members (commander and gunner). In the box is a hull element, 5 frames with model parts, rubber tracks, netting for carrying a transport basket and decals (allow reconstruction of the vehicle from the 7th Armored Division of Hokkaido or Fuji school brigade).

Plastic parts should be cut out of frames, fit together and glued according to the assembly instruction. You should paint the whole model using modeling paints according to the proposed paint scheme in the instruction. It is important to remember that some plastic parts require painting before gluing. In the end, it is needed to apply decals according to markings or graphics in instruction.

Paints suggested by the manufacturer for the best effect:

Vehicle:

  • Tamiya XF-65, XF-49 + XF-51 + XF-64 (Armor, Camouflage, 1: 1 ratio)
  • Tamiya XF-1 (bandages, rubber elements)
  • Tamiya XF-56 (caterpillars, metal sapper tools)
  • Tamiya XF-64 (wooden toolbox parts)
  • Tamiya X-10 (MG)

Driver:

  • Tamiya XF-5 + XF-57, XF-63, XF-64 (uniform, camouflage)
  • Tamiya XF-49 (belts)
  • Tamiya XF-1 (shoes)
  • Tamiya XF-59 (holster)
  • Tamiya X-18 (headphones)
  • Tamiya XF-15 (skin)

Set contains:

  • The assembly instruction.
  • Frames with plastic parts.
  • Decals.
  • Rubber tracks.
  • Soldiers / crew figures.

Kit does NOT contain paints and glue.

Here are the basic tools and materials you need:

  • Pilers for cutting plastic parts.
  • Modeling penknife.
  • File or sandpaper.
  • Cement for plastic models.
  • Brush or airbrush.
  • Modeling paints.

If you are not sure of any accessories or colors of paints you need for your model kit, please ask us, we will be glad to help you.
