More info

The kit proposed by Tamiya company includes a plastic model kit of German main battle tank in 1:35 scale.

Leopard was the first tank built in post-war Germany and further compete with the new French production - AMX-30. It turned out that German design exceeds AMX in every aspect. Leopard was faster, more maneuverable, more resilient, better equipped and armed than his rival. His performance was so superior to other tanks of that era that he was named the first second generation base tank. Leopards have been used not only by the Bundeswehr but also by many other armies in the world, including Australia, Norway, Belgium and Canada. In Germany, they served almost 40 years and many modifications have been made. The A4 version was introduced in 1974 with a completely new heavily armored tower. Other enhancements include the usage of more advanced electronics, rangefinders, viewfinders, and fire control systems. Modifications were also made to the powertrain, which introduced a new fully automatic transmission that greatly improved field performance and increased fuel economy. Leopard tanks serve or remain in the reserve of several armies around the globe until today.

The Tamiya kit allows building German 2nd Tank Leopard A4 tank from the Cold War period together with the tank commander figure. The box contains 2 hull components, 3 moldings with model parts, rubber tracks and decals.

Plastic parts should be cut out of frames, fit together and glued according to the assembly instruction. You should paint the whole model using modeling paints according to the proposed paint scheme in the instruction. It is important to remember that some plastic parts require painting before gluing. In the end, it is needed to apply decals according to markings or graphics in instruction.

Paints suggested by the manufacturer for the best effect:

Vehicle:

  • Tamiya XF-62 or TS-5 spray (armor)
  • Tamiya XF-52 (masking mask)
  • Tamiya XF-1 (rubber parts, viewfinders)
  • Tamiya XF-56 (ropes, tools)
  • Tamiya XF-64 (wooden toolbox parts)

Commander:

  • Tamiya XF-62 (uniform)
  • Tamiya XF-10 (beret, belt)
  • Tamiya XF-1 (shoes)
