The kit proposed by Tamiya company includes a plastic model kit of American main battle tank in 1:35 scale.
In the 60s, there was conducted cooperation on a joint project of the US-German main battle tank MBT-70. It was not planned to enter the service before 1970. With the introduction of the Soviet T-62, there was a need to create a vehicle capable to fight the new enemy. The new tank was basically an upgrade to the M60A1 Patton and was named M60A2. Its armament was a modern short barrelled 152 mm cannon, which in addition to conventional ammunition was cable of firing Shillelagh anti-tank missiles. The advantage of this tank was also silhouette, lower than its predecessor, achieved by installing an innovative turret, equipped with the latest fire control systems. Its modern look gave the tank nickname Starship. Unfortunately, M60A2 turned out to be too expensive to operate, due to the regular failures of armaments. With that experience, next development version of Patton was armed with newer conventional cannon.
