More info

The kit proposed by Tamiya company includes a plastic model kit of Polish heavy tank in 1:35 scale.

After encountering Tgers heavy tanks, which by far exceeded the combat capabilities of the Soviet constructions, the Russians began work on a new heavy tank. In 1943, the prototype Object 237 was completed, which went into production as IS-1, named after Joseph Stalin. Production ended in January next year, due to insufficient armament, identical to the medium tank T-34/85. Further development resulted in the introduction in December 1943 of an IS-2 tank armed with a 122 mm D-25T cannon. It allowed for equal fighting with Tigers and Panthers on short and medium distances, and strong front armor provided adequate protection against fire to the crew inside. By the end of the war, approximately 3400 IS-1 and 2 tanks were produced. Most of them served in the regiments of heavy tanks, including the 4th and 5th Tank Regiments of the Heavy Polish People's Army.

The Tamiya kit allows you to build the Soviet heavy tank IS-2 mod. 1944 with two crew. In the box there is a hull element, 6 frames with parts of the model, rubber tracks, photo etched parts of the engine cover, string and decals (allow to reconstruct the tanks of the 7th or 88th Independent Tank Regiment of Heavy Guards, 1. Czechoslovak Brigade of Tanks or 4th Regiment Heavy Tanks LWP).

Plastic parts should be cut out of frames, fit together and glued according to the assembly instruction. You should paint the whole model using modeling paints according to the proposed paint scheme in the instruction. It is important to remember that some plastic parts require painting before gluing. In the end, it is needed to apply decals according to markings or graphics in instruction.

Paints suggested by the manufacturer for the best effect:

  • Tamiya XF-61 or spray TS-28 (armor)
  • Tamiya XF-2 (identification belts)
  • Tamiya XF-56 (caterpillars, towing rope, metal sapper parts and equipment)

  • Tamiya XF-24 (Headphone)
